Super Fun Happy Chinese Prison Camp!!!

I learn something new everyday. For instance, just yesterday I found out that prisons in China are really just super-fun-happy-summer-prison-camps! Really its just a "special school" where "chatting is another way of knowing and helping wrongdoers."

Who knew prison could be so idyllic?

Wrongdoer: "Hey Mr. Prison Officer, did you see the flowers blooming over here? Aren't they just swell? Sir, you don't mind if we just chit chat a bit do you? I have some things to get off my chest...'

And who knew the enriching wonders of child prison labor?

Headmaster Gaurd: "Oh, here son, did your machine jam again? Let me show you how to get back work. Ha, ha isn't this fun?"

Prisoners in China also receive top-notch legal consultations.

Mr. Lawyer: "Well, let me look through your papers one more time.... nope. It looks like you're screwed!"

Suspected Wrongdoer: "But Mr. Lawyer sir, there isn't any evidence to support my incarceration..."

Mr. Lawyer: "Hmm.... well, let us fill out some more paper work and we'll see what we can do. Give us a call, hmm, say next year. And in the mean time, I hear there a nice garden in the back. The flowers should be starting to bloom about this time of year..."

I just wish the Bush Administration could have done a better job at informing the public of the super-happy-fun-summer-camp in sunny Guantanamo Bay, Florida (?).

Underpaid and Overworked

Co-editor of the Potsusaker Post looking to the past for journalistic inspiration.
You would think after a nice two-week holiday the "hired help" wouldn't be taking a siesta on the first day back at work. That's okay, I guess one month of 1917 would put most anyone to sleep.

A big 'THANK YOU' to my co-editor, co-researcher, and co-everything-elser. Love, your appreciator-in-chief.

4000 Words

A picture speaks a thousand words, no? Here's a handful of some of political cartoons that I've run across lately.

Whipping back the wolves of vice, prostitution, and the corruption of minors.

Uncle Sam injecting Panama's breasts with a new treaty. The loin cloth is labeled the "Panama Canal." The syringe behind Tio Sam's back is "annexation" and the broken syringe of "international rights" lies on the ground. Click on the picture for more details!

The red-light district is on the right and the rest speaks for itself.

Gotta love the guy hurling chunks on the sidewalk. It happens. Reminds me of the time in Kyoto when I ran into a pile of puke with a set of dentures smack in the middle. "Honey, what happen to your teeth?"

Naoko's Fieldtrip to Parque Omar, National Library (or "Take Your Wife to Work Day")

This is where Jeff has been going everyday: the Ernesto S. Castillero National Library.

土曜日だっていうのに、ジェフさんがリサーチに出かけたいと言うんで、ついていくことにしました。これが、ジェフが毎日通っている国立図書館。

Jeff reads and takes pictures of old newspapers which can be very fragile. Price of latex gloves: 15 cents. Memories: priceless.

古い新聞をこうやって毎日読んでるんですって。あと、デジタルカメラで写真をとっておいて、家に帰ってから読むっていう方法が今は主流らしいです。この図書館、窓がいっぱいあって、気持ちよいところです。

This library is located in the park which is very close to central city. The park used to be a golf course for the wealthy. Now its a beautiful park but it still has a kinda golf course feeling. Thanks Omar Torrijos!

ところでこの図書館、公園の中にあるのです。昔は裕福層向けのゴルフ場だったらしく、キレイに整備されています。現在は庶民の憩いの場。

Jeff's lunch place: "El Kioskito." Rice, macaroni, beans and meat cost only $1.75!!

ジェフさんがいつもランチしているところ。食べきれないほどのライス、マカロニ、豆の煮たの、ステーキ肉で、なんと2ドル。激安です。肉は、後ろに見えるドラム缶で、バーベキューしてくれました。
